The German Red Cross, DRK for short, is a non-profit humanitarian organization that helps people in disaster areas and conflict situations. It is one of 190 National Societies that together make up one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world - the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. For more than 150 years, the DRK has been active in more than 50 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. At the national level, the DRK takes on tasks in the areas of emergency services, first aid, health services, elderly care and child, youth and family care. In an international context, the DRK is primarily active in the field of humanitarian aid and focuses, among other things, on the areas of disaster relief and preparedness, drinking water supply and the fight against epidemics.
